  1. Portugal is a significant fish and seafood importer, with imports of $1.8 billion in 2010, and ranking as the 18th largest fish and seafood importer in the world and 10th within the EU. Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates accounted for $1.7 million of Portugal';s fish and seafood imports in 2010.
However, in the past five years, Portugal';s imports of fish and seafood have seen notably higher levels, which may have been impacted by the global economic slowdown from 2008-2009.
In 2007, Portugal ranked as the 15th largest fish and seafood importer in the world, with nearly $2.1 billion in imports.
